China's Transport Ministry approves development plan for Hainan's Yangpu Port to 2035

According to the plan, Yangpu's throughput capacity is to reach 225 million tons and cargo traffic - 12 million standard containers by 2035

HAIKOU /China/, January 10. /TASS/. The Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China together with the People's Government of South China's Hainan Province have approved the master plan for the development of the Yangpu deep-water container port for the period up to 2035, Hainan Daily reported.

The new regulations ensure Yangpu's status as a major international transportation hub, the newspaper said. The document sets the direction for the development of both the port itself and the adjacent industrial, logistics and residential zones.

According to the plan, by 2035, Yangpu's throughput capacity should reach 225 million tons and its cargo traffic 12 million standard containers. The length of the coastline on its territory covers 46.6 kilometers and can accommodate more than 140 berths. One of the key tasks is to ensure the environmental friendliness and safety of the facility, and to achieve high efficiency in its operation.

To successfully meet these goals, the authorities have set up a special working group that will closely coordinate with local shipping and port companies. Yangpu is expected to handle more than 3.5 million containers by 2025. It is preparing to receive the world's largest container ships with a capacity of up to 200,000 tons.

The plan also shows that Yangpu will open a direct international trade route to the US in the coming years. According to the plan, the port's ship registration and duty-free fueling services will soon reach a new level.

Yangpu Economic Development Zone on the west coast of Hainan Island plays an important role in the formation of a unified, highly efficient transportation network in the People's Republic of China. According to the Chinese government's development program, this logistics cluster will become a key point for distributing the flow of goods from various regions in China to Southeast Asia and Oceania, Europe and North America by 2035. It is expected to become a leading logistics hub of regional significance.
