Russian Railways tests robodogs for work on dangerous railway sections

The iron dogs are equipped with cameras and lidars that automatically transmit data to the operator's computer

MOSCOW, December 27. /TASS/. Russian Railways is testing three robodogs for work on railroad sections that are potentially dangerous for people, the company said on its official Telegram channel.

"We are training a steel pack. We are studying the capabilities of biomorphic robots for work on railway sections that are potentially dangerous for people. So far there are only three robodogs in our ‘pack’," the statement said.

The iron dogs are equipped with cameras and lidars that automatically transmit data to the operator's computer. "The fall series of tests has now ended - they were conducted at freight-heavy stations in the Moscow region. Specialists studied how biomorphs perform the prescribed algorithm of action, move along the infrastructure on paws and wheels, and the autonomous operating time of ‘dog’ batteries," Russian Railways said.

According to the company, in the future robodogs may be used to monitor compliance with labor protection and transportation safety regulations, as well as to diagnose the condition of infrastructure and rolling stock. The electronic functionality of the dogs will make it possible to integrate them into the ecosystem of a digital station, which will increase the automation of production processes.
