Europe takes less gas from UGS amid warmer weather, higher imports

European UGS facilities are currently 77.91% full

MOSCOW, December 17. /TASS/. European countries lowered the pace of gas withdrawal from underground gas storages (UGS) amid warm weather expectations and greater liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports, according to Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) data.

"Gazprom supplies Russian gas for transit through Ukrainian territory in the volume confirmed by the Ukrainian side via the Sudzha gas metering station - 42.4 mln cubic meters as of December 17. The nomination for the Sokhranovka gas metering station has been rejected," a spokesman of the Russian gas giant Gazprom said. On Monday, December 16, the pumping rate equaled 42 mln cubic meters.

The transit line through Ukraine remains the only route to supply Russian gas to western and central European countries. The pumping through Nord Stream has been fully suspended.

Gas withdrawal from European underground gas storage (UGS) facilities amounted to 422 mln cubic meters on December 15, according to GIE. Meanwhile, the injection pumping totaled 42 bln cubic meters. European UGS facilities are currently 77.91% full (2.97 percentage points lower than the average as of this date in the past five years). The average procurement gas price in Europe stood at $491 per 1,000 cubic meters in November and early December.
