Hungary plans to address payment problem for Russian gas amid US sanctions on Gazprombank

"We have discussed this issue in detail with the energy ministers of Turkey, Bulgaria and Azerbaijan," Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said

BUDAPEST, November 22. /TASS/. Hungary will figure out a way to pay for Russian gas supplies after the US slapped sanctions against Gazprombank, as Budapest has about a month to find a workaround, Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said.

"It became known yesterday that the United States included Gazprombank into the sanction list. This step may cause serious difficulties for a significant part of Central and Southeast Europe, because natural gas from Russia continues playing an important role from the standpoint of the security of the region's energy supplies. To avoid this, we are coordinating our efforts. We have discussed this issue in detail with the energy ministers of Turkey, Bulgaria and Azerbaijan," Szijjarto said.

The government will continue to ensure the stability and reliability of energy supplies to Hungary, he added.
