Methane level in Nord Stream pipeline leak area is 1,000 times above standard rate — radio

It is noted that the critical level of methane was registered during tests performed by the Swedish research vessel Skagerak

STOCKHOLM, October 6. /TASS/. The methane content in Baltic Sea waters in the area of gas leaks from the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines is one thousand times above the standard rate, Radio Sweden said on Thursday.

The critical level of methane was registered during tests performed by the Swedish research vessel Skagerak. The crew completed their operations several nautical miles away from the leak point and the ship sailed back to Goteborg.

"Such methane concentration can adversely affect marine phytoplankton and zooplankton" but researchers will need to hold further studies, Research Director of the party Katarina Abrahamsson said.
