BEIRUT, December 25. /TASS/. Syria’s new authorities will spare no effort to regain Syria’s status as an important regional player, Asaad Hassan al-Shibani, the foreign minister in Syria’s transitional government, said.
"Syria will regain its role in the regional and international arenas and will become a key player in the region again," the Al Jazeera television channel quoted him as saying.
He also promised that Damascus will take measures to ensure the safe return "of each Syrian national who had to flee his land and his home."
Armed opposition units in Syria launched a large-scale offensive on government troops in the Aleppo and Idlib governorates in late November. On December 8, they entered Damascus, while President Bashar Assad stepped down and fled the country. On December 10, Mohammed al-Bashir, who had led the so-called Syrian Salvation Government in the Idlib governorate, announced his appointment as head of Syria’s interim government, saying that the transitional period will last until March 1, 2025.
