Azerbaijan’s president blames Western powers for provoking Armenia into conflict

Ilham Aliyev emphasized that he had repeatedly tried to explain the need to resist such provocations during his official speeches and talks with the Armenian side

BAKU, November 8. /TASS/. Some Western states are provoking Armenia into a new war with Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan stated at the opening of Victory Park in Baku.

"Anti-Azerbaijani forces, Islamophobes, and Azerbaijanophobes in certain Western capitals are stirring up Armenia to wage a new war. This could lead to a disastrous outcome for the country," Aliyev said, emphasizing that he had repeatedly tried to explain the need to resist such provocations during his official speeches and talks with the Armenian side.

"Some Western nations, so-called 'friends' of Armenia, are prepared to sacrifice Armenia for the sake of their own geopolitical interests, undermining stability in the South Caucasus and capitalizing on the chaos when blood is spilled again," the Azerbaijani president continued, adding that Armenia should renounce its policy of military escalation before it is too late.

"We do not seek war. We have accomplished what we set out to achieve: securing our territorial integrity and state sovereignty," the Azerbaijani leader concluded.
