CAIRO, January 10. /TASS/. A three-way summit of Jordanian King Abdullah II, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will be held in Jordan’s Red Sea port city of Aqaba on Wednesday, the monarch’s office announced on Tuesday.
The sides will discuss "the dangerous developments in Gaza and the situation in the West Bank."
The top-level meeting will be held within the framework of Jordan’s efforts "to push for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid."
According to the Akhbar al-Ghad news portal, the three leaders will also discuss "rebuilding Gaza and achieving unity among Palestinian factions while forming the government tasked with this effort."
Abbas is expected to depart to Aqaba after meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Ramallah. The top US diplomat is currently touring the Middle East, making stops in several countries of the region.
Tensions in the Middle East flared up again on October 7, 2023, after militants from the radical Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise incursion into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip, killing residents of border communities and taking people hostage, including women, children and the elderly. Israel announced a total blockade of Gaza and started carrying out strikes on targets in the enclave, as well as on certain areas in Lebanon and Syria. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
