CHISINAU, December 18. /TASS/. The Moldovan parliament is preparing to denounce the Treaty on Cooperation among the States Members of the CIS in Combating Terrorism and the Agreement on Military Observer Groups and Collective Peacekeeping Forces in the CIS, the press service of the legislative body informs.
"The members of the Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration positively received the draft resolutions on the denunciation of two more agreements concluded within the CIS framework," the message says. These agreements concern groups of military observers and collective peacekeeping forces in the CIS, as well as cooperation in the material and technical support of competent authorities engaged in the fight against terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism.
Earlier, the Moldovan government announced plans to denounce more than 100 out of 282 treaties within the framework of the CIS. Over 40 agreements have already been terminated to date.
Moldova's attitude towards the CIS began to change after the 2020 presidential election win for Maia Sandu, who has not participated in any of the organization's summits. Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized Moldova’s policy as duplicitous, noting that, despite expressing a desire to leave the CIS, the Moldovan government is in no hurry to give up the socio-economic benefits of participating in the CIS.
