Grossi praises ‘dome’ encasing dry cask storage facility at Zaporozhye NPP — official

It was emphasized that "as soon as the hostilities are pushed back, many of those additional structures will certainly be removed"

MOSCOW, March 29. /TASS/. The dome structure erected at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant to protect the spent fuel storage facility has not affected the plant’s operation, regarding which visiting IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi gave a positive assessment, Renat Karchaa, advisor to the CEO of Russia’s Rosenergoatom nuclear power plant operator, said on Wednesday.

Karchaa pointed out that Grossi was shown "the dome," an engineering structure designed to shield the dry cask storage facility from shrapnel. Karchaa explained that "none of the newly erected structures have affected the control and operation system of the spent fuel storage facility."

"In this regard, Rafael Grossi took a rather positive view of such modernization efforts," he said on the Rossiya-24 TV news channel.

The advisor emphasized that "as soon as the hostilities are pushed back, many of those additional structures will certainly be removed."
