Ukrainian top diplomat says Kiev not involved in Nord Streams sabotage

"We are waiting for the results of the investigation," Dmitry Kuleba said

ROME, March 9. /TASS/. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said after media reports on explosions at the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines that his country's authorities had nothing to do with this sabotage.

"My government has nothing to do with this. And I think that articles without evidence are harmful because they give the impression that Ukraine is to blame. We are waiting for the results of the investigation," he told the Italian newspaper la Repubblica in an interview on Thursday.

On Tuesday, the New York Times reported, citing US officials, that the sabotage of the gas pipelines could have been carried out by a "pro-Ukrainian group" that operated without the knowledge of US authorities. The Die Zeit newspaper also published an article stating that German investigators had identified the vessel used by the saboteurs. The company that rented it allegedly belonged to Ukrainian citizens and was registered in Poland.

The Times newspaper reported on Wednesday that European intelligence knew the name of the "private sponsor" of the sabotage. His identity is not disclosed by the secret services, but he is a wealthy Ukrainian who is allegedly not related to President Vladimir Zelensky and his government.

On September 27, 2022, the Nord Stream AG company reported that three threads of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 offshore gas pipelines had suffered unprecedented damage the day before. Swedish seismologists later reported that two explosions had been recorded along the Nord Stream pipelines on September 26. After that, investigators from Russia’s Federal Security Service initiated an probe into this act of international terrorism in connection with the explosions.
