Hungary to use international forums to protect rights of Hungarians in Ukraine — MFA

Peter Szijjarto noted that Hungary was conducting the largest humanitarian operation in its history to assist Ukrainian refugees, but the Hungarian minority in the Sub-Carpathian region of Ukraine "is subjected to harassment and provocations"

BUDAPEST, March 6. /TASS/. Hungary plans to use all international forums in a bid to push Ukraine to stop violating the rights of ethnic Hungarians in Sub-Carpathia, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said in the country’s parliament on Monday.

He noted that Hungary is now conducting the largest humanitarian operation in its history to assist Ukrainian refugees, but the Hungarian minority in the Sub-Carpathian region of Ukraine "is subjected to harassment and provocations."

"While 1,247 Hungarian schools and kindergartens have enrolled the children of Ukrainian refugees, the schools for the Hungarian minority in Ukraine will be closed from September," Szijjarto said. According to the minister, Sub-Carpathian Hungarians "will be deprived of the opportunity to graduate from a high school or a university that has classes in their native language."

In this regard, the foreign minister said that "Hungary will use all international forums in order to help the Hungarian people of Sub-Carpathia" to restore their rights.
