NICOSIA, February 12. /TASS/. Cyprus’ former Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides has won runoff presidential poll in Cyprus, according to the results of vote count.

After counting 99.5% of ballot papers, Christodoulides was supported by 51.9% of voters. His rival, Andreas Mavroyiannis , former negotiator of the Greek Cypriot community in the Cyprus talks, former Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the UN, scored 48.1% of votes and has already recognized his defeat.

"I am disappointed that we have failed to live up to the hopes of those who voted for us," Mavroyiannis said, adding that he has called Christodoulides to congratulate him. Mavroyiannis said he is ready to cooperate with the president elect in the interests of the country and society in case the new authorities want it.
