NATO membership candidates’ support of terrorism unacceptable — Turkish Foreign Minister

Earlier on Wednesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Ankara will not support the admission of Sweden and Finland to NATO

UNITED NATIONS, May 18. /TASS/. The support of terrorist organizations by NATO membership candidates is unacceptable, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Wednesday, referring to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

"We consider the support of terrorist organizations that target Turkey by states who want to join NATO to be unacceptable," Cavusoglu told reporters after the meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken that lasted for almost 2 hours.

Earlier on Wednesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Ankara will not support the admission of Sweden and Finland to NATO, until they make a decision on their position regarding terrorist organizations, the PKK in particular. He made a similar statement on May 16, noting that he opposes the admission of these countries because of their refusal to extradite persons involved in the PKK activities. Erdogan advised representatives of these two countries not to bother visiting Ankara to try to persuade it to support them. On Wednesday, he reiterated these words.
