SOCHI, February 10. /ITAR-TASS/. French biathlete Martin Fourcade has won gold in men’s 12.5km pursuit.
Although missing one of the shots and going for a penalty lap at the Laura Biathlon course, Fourcade, the silver medalist of the 2010 Olympics in Canada’s Vancouver, finished the distance with the best time of 33 minutes 48.6 seconds to take the gold.
Ondrej Moravec of the Czech Republic cleared the distance without any missed shots and finished 14.1 seconds behind Fourcade to win the Olympic silver.
Fourcade’s teammate Jean Guillaume Beatrix finished the distance with one missed shot and grabbed the bronze with the final time of 34 minutes 12.8 seconds.
The medals won by French biathletes on Monday placed France in the eights position of the Sochi Olympics medals count, which is currently topped by Canada with two gold, two silver and one bronze medals.
Russian biathlete Yevgeny Ustyugov finished in the 5th place.
