Russian sailors in Norway test positive for coronavirus

Over the past months, several cases of the coronavirus infection have already been detected among crew members of various Russian ships in northern Norway

HELSINKI, February 16. /TASS/. The coronavirus infection has been detected in crew members of Russian fishing ships docked in the city of Tromso in northern Norway, the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Kirkenes confirmed to TASS on Tuesday.

"We confirm three cases of the coronavirus among Russian sailors in Tromso. We are monitoring the situation and provide the necessary consular support," the Consulate pointed out.

"The sick [sailors] were placed in the city isolation ward, the sailors who had contacts with them are housed at a hotel, the healthy ones are aboard ships," the Consulate added.

It was pointed out that "ship-owning companies and ship captains fulfill all the requirements of Norwegian authorities." The diplomatic mission couldn’t indicate the exact number of people aboard due to shifting crews.

According to the Norwegian News Agency, currently two Russian vessels are docked in Tromso. The Consulate General of the Russian Federation identified them as Severnyi Oryol and Sapphire II.
