TOMSK, November 28. /TASS/. A startup studio for financing university business projects has been created in Tomsk. In three years, 72 startups by students and young scientists will receive the necessary funding, the press service of Tomsk Polytechnic University, which oversees the project, said on Monday.
"The Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programmes and three universities have signed an investment agreement. They are Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU), Tomsk State University (TSU) and Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TSUCSR). The curator of the project is TPU. The partners have officially registered the Tomsk University Startup Studio as a limited liability company," the press service said.
The task of the studio is to bring new technology companies emerging from universities to the market. Its focus will be the B2B market. By the end of 2022, it will have invested in two startups and five startup projects. In three years - 72 startups. In addition, the universities participating in the startup studio have divided their activities: TPU will work on the creation of technology businesses in the energy sector, TSU in biotechnology and new materials, and TSUCSR in IT, electronics and communications.
"The startup studio will be located in the B51 business incubator building at Tomsk Polytechnic University. By mid-2023, we will have completed all the global reconstruction work on it, so it will house all of TPU's business structure. The key value of our studio lies in the people who have joined its management team. They have extensive experience in technological and corporate entrepreneurship, and will provide methodological support to students, as well as help them find an idea for satisfying a specific market need," TPU Rector Dmitry Sednev was quoted by the press service as saying.
Tomsk is considered a student city and claims to be one of the world's largest education export centres under the national project of the same name.
