CAR authorities vow to make every effort to find Russian journalists' murderers — diplomat

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that all necessary assistance would be provided to the slain journalists’ families

MOSCOW, August 3. /TASS/. The Central African Republic’s authorities have vowed to make every possible effort to find the murderers of three Russian journalists in a message sent to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Friday.

"The minister of regional integration and francophone affairs, who is also serving as the minister of foreign affairs and Central Africans abroad has sent a message to the Russian foreign minister, conveying condolences [over the journalists’ death] and emphasizing the country’s willingness to do everything possible to find and punish the perpetrators"," Zakhavova said.

Russian journalists’ death

The Russian embassy in the Central African Republic said on Tuesday that three men had been found dead near the city of Sibut (300 kilometers north of Bangui) on July 30. The Russian Foreign Ministry said later that the three had been carrying press cards in the names of Kirill Radchenko, Alexander Rastorguyev and Orkhan Dzhemal.

The Russian Investigative Committee launched a criminal investigation into the murder. Editor-in-chief of the Ekho Moskvy (or Echo of Moscow) radio station Alexei Venediktov earlier told TASS that journalist Orkhan Dzhemal, cameraman Kirill Radchenko and director Alexander Rastorguyev had been working on a documentary in the Central African Republic.

Zakharova said that all necessary assistance would be provided to the slain journalists’ families.
