Earthquake death toll rises to 1,762 in Turkey — officials

The number of destroyed buildings reached 5,606

ANKARA, February 6. /TASS/. The earthquake death toll has risen to 1,762, Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority said on Monday.

"The death toll from the earthquake has reached 1,762 and 12,068 people have sustained injuries. The number of toppled buildings is 5,606," the agency said in a statement.

A 7.7 magnitude earthquake rocked southeastern Turkey on Monday morning. The tremor and the nearly 150 aftershocks that followed were felt across 10 provinces of the country and in neighboring countries including Syria, which also suffered major devastation.
