Russian foreign trade surplus down 4.82% to $7.9 bln in January 2025 — customs

Russian exports to African countries increased by 42.07% to $1.4 bln

MOSCOW, March 11. /TASS/. The foreign trade surplus of Russia lost 4.82% year on year in January 2025 and totaled $7.9 bln, the Federal Customs Service said.

Exports edged up by $0.9 bln to $29.3 bln. Imports gained $1.3 bln to $21.4 bln. The trade turnover of Russia grew by 4.54% annually in January 2025 to $50.7 bln.

According to the customs, exports to European countries fell by 2.62% to $4.6 bln, while imports lost 11.05% to $4.5 bln. Russia’s exports to Asian countries gained 3% to $22.4 bln, while imports from those countries surged by 13.14% to $15.5 bln.

Russian exports to African countries increased by 42.07% to $1.4 bln, while imports added 17.97% to $0.3 bln.

Exports to countries of North and South America edged down by 3.29% to $0.9 bln, while imports gained 7% to $1.1 bln.

Mineral products constitute the greatest share in Russian exports and stand at $18 bln (-0.6%). The second largest item is metals and metal items, with their exports growing by 4% to $3.4 bln. Agricultural products rank third with $3.3 bln, up 7.4%.

The top imported products of Russia are machinery, equipment and motor vehicles (up 8.1% to $10.9 bln in January 2025), chemicals (+2.8% to $4 bln) and agricultural products (+11.3% to $2.9 bln).
