MOSCOW, February 20. /TASS/. Russians' interest in new Chinese cars skyrocketed by 81.2% in 2024, according to a study by Avito Auto, the results of which were obtained by TASS.

"Experts of Avito Auto (a segment for cars at the Avito internet service - TASS) analyzed data for 2024 on the supply and prices of new Chinese cars, as well as the interest of platform users in this category of cars. It turned out that, compared to 2023, interest in them soared by 81.2%, while the number of offers increased by 77.9%. The average price of a new car from China remained at the level of last year and amounted to 3.14 million rubles ($35,476)," the study says.

The rating of the most popular brands includes Haval (17.2%), Chery (14.6%), Geely (12.9%), Changan (11.5%) and Omoda (7.3%). The most noticeable dynamics of interest was shown by the Chery brand (an increase of 98.6% compared to 2023).

As for popularity of concrete models, Haval Jolion became the leaders with a share of 7.4%. Omoda C5 (5.1%), and Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max (4.5%) ranked second and third respectively.

The top 5 also included Chery Tiggo 4 Pro and Geely Monjaro. The leader in terms of dynamics of people’s interest was Jaecoo J7(an increase of 5.9 times compared to 2023).

In terms of the number of ads on the platform in 2024, Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max took first place with a share of 8.1%. Omoda C5 (7.6%) and Haval Jolion (5.8%) were also among the leaders.

"Chinese manufacturers have really won the trust of car owners in recent years. Our survey showed that every third respondent is ready to buy a Chinese car, even if they currently own a car from another country, although in 2023 the number of such people was less by a quarter. The growing interest in cars from China is an indicator of how loyalty to them is changing," said Nikita Ivakhnenko, head of the New Cars department at Avito as quoted in the study.
