BRUSSELS, March 20. /TASS/. Russia is winning the global grain war amid mass protests of farmers in Europe against the uncontrolled import of agricultural products from Ukraine, the European edition of the Politico newspaper wrote.
As the newspaper notes, farmers across Europe are taking to the streets, protesting against the uncontrolled import of Ukrainian grain.
"The mass protests have forced EU governments from Warsaw to Paris to make huge concessions to farmers and have sent Kiev’s political ties with its Western allies spiraling to their weakest," the newspaper writes.
Russia, on the contrary, continued to supply its inexpensive grain to a number of EU countries, including Spain, Italy and France. Considering this, the newspaper comes to the conclusion that "Russia is winning the global grain war."
In 2023, the Russia brought in grain harvest, which was second largest in its history - about 143 million tons. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, global grain production in 2023 was expected to reach 2 billion 819 million tons, which is 1.1% more than in 2022.
Farmers in a number of EU countries, including Belgium, Germany, Poland and France, are protesting against numerous European norms regulating agricultural production, as well as against the uncontrolled import of agricultural products from Ukraine into European countries. Farmers also demand simplification of bureaucratic procedures and less stringent regulation of agriculture.
