Security guarantees for Kiev may include Coalition of the Willing’s troops — media

According to the agency, the precise format has not yet been finalized

NEW YORK, August 19. /TASS/. Security guarantees for Ukraine from Europe and the US will be built around the work of the Coalition of the Willing and may involve a multinational force in the future, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.

According to the agency, the precise format has not yet been finalized. Bloomberg’s sources noted that the US and European partners will begin working immediately on shaping the guarantees, which are expected to include measures aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s armed forces and overall defense capabilities.

On August 15, a Russian-American summit was held in Alaska, after which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the main topic of the talks was the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. He proposed turning the page in relations between Moscow and Washington, restoring cooperation, and also invited US leader Donald Trump to Russia. In turn, the American president confirmed that progress had been made at this meeting, but the parties were not able to reach an agreement on all issues on the agenda.

On Monday, Trump received Vladimir Zelensky, presidents of Finland and France Alexander Stubb and Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister of Great Britain Keir Starmer, Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz, and head of the Italian government Giorgia Meloni. In addition, the meeting was attended by head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. This was the first time that such a large number of top-level leaders had been simultaneously represented in the White House. This unprecedented lineup of participants, underscoring the importance of the issue under discussion, was also emphasized by the American leader.

During the meeting in Washington, Trump made a phone call to Putin, with whom, the US president said, he discussed, among other things, the prospects for holding a meeting between the Russian leader and Zelensky, followed by trilateral negotiations. According to Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov, the leaders expressed support for continuing direct consultations between Moscow and Kiev, and the idea of elevating their level was also considered.
