No country agrees to accept resettling Palestinians — acting Israeli ambassador

Alexander Ben Zvi pointed out that it’s the US that is taking the initiative on this "project" because Israel has ambiguous relations with Syria, Somalia and Sudan

MOSCOW, March 25. /TASS/. No country has yet agreed to accept Palestinians in the hypothetical scenario that they resettle from Gaza in the future, Acting Israeli Ambassador to Russia Alexander Ben Zvi told TASS in an interview.

Discussions about the potential resettlement of Gazans flared up again in February after US President Donald Trump said that Washington was considering the option of resettling Palestinians from the enclave to other countries of the region, namely Egypt and Jordan. The media also reported that Gazans could be resettled to Syria, Somalia and Sudan. In response to a TASS question about whether Israel had contacted those countries’ authorities, Ben Zvi said "no."

"This is a project. Some of these countries said that they had not even received such requests. Others said they would not agree, and so forth. There was an idea related to Jordan, for instance, and even more distant countries. However, I still haven’t seen anyone welcome the idea and say: ‘Let’s do this’," the envoy noted.

The diplomat pointed out that it’s the US that is taking the initiative on this "project" because Israel has ambiguous relations with Syria, Somalia and Sudan.

"This is an issue that the United States has tackled. We weren’t against it. I mean, we are involved but we are not holding direct talks," Ben Zvi stressed.
