Casualties reported in drone strike on presidential palace in Sudan — TV

Earlier the Sudanese army said it regained control over the presidential palace and several ministries in the center of Khartoum

CAIRO, March 21. /TASS/. At least three people were killed after an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) struck the presidential palace in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, Al Hadath TV channel reported.

It said that the victims included local troops and at least three media representatives. The TV channel did not mention to the exact number of victims.

Earlier the Sudanese army said it regained control over the presidential palace and several ministries in the center of Khartoum.

Al Hadath said the drone belonged to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which is fighting against the Sudanese army.

According to General Mohammed Abdel Rahman al-Balawi, commander of operations of the Sudanese army in Khartoum, "the armed forces are giving the supporters of the RSF only 48 hours to leave the capital or lay down their arms." He added that this time could be reduced to one day, or as long as "army formations occupy the main bridge over the Nile River" separating the central parts of Khartoum from the suburbs.

The general also said that the army "will continue to restore security throughout the capital" and promised that "the Khartoum International Airport will reopen soon."

The situation in Sudan deteriorated in April 2023 due to disagreements between the Chairman of the Sovereign Council (the country's interim governing body), Army Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the head of the Rapid Support Force Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo. Clashes broke out between the army and the RSF in Merowe and Khartoum, which quickly spread to other parts of Sudan. Thousands of people died and tens of thousands were injured in the conflict.
