DUBAI, December 28. /TASS/. The Syrian ports of Latakia and Tartus, the country’s largest ports on the Mediterranean Sea, have fully resumed operations after a short break caused by a change of government in the country, a spokesperson for the port of Tartus told TASS.
"The ports of Latakia and Tartus temporarily suspended operations after the change of government, which made ships wait in line to be unloaded. It took about two weeks to resume normal operations. Both ports are now serving ships and handling cargo normally," the official said.
The Israeli army carried out a series of massive strikes on Syria, including the provinces of Latakia and Tartus, after President Bashar Assad was ousted. The attacks targeted military facilities. On December 10, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that Syria’s Navy, stationed in Latakia and Tartus, had in fact been destroyed.
In late November, armed opposition units launched a large-scale offensive on positions held by Syrian government forces. On December 8, they entered Damascus. Assad resigned as Syrian president and left the country.
