Zelensky fears defeat at elections after hostilities end, Guardian reports

Ukraine is supposed to hold the next presidential election in the spring of 2024

LONDON, November 20. /TASS/. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky fears he won’t win presidential elections after military operations end, the Guardian reported, citing a source.

According to the newspaper, Zelensky is afraid of repeating the fate of UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill (1874-1965), whose party lost the parliamentary elections in 1945, despite the victory of the anti-Hitler coalition in World War II. The UK media have previously compared the Ukrainian president to Churchill. According to the Guardian, once the fighting is over, the opposition in Ukraine wants to investigate how well Zelensky prepared the country for the Russian special military operation.

Ukraine is supposed to hold the next presidential election in the spring of 2024. But the country has introduced martial law, which, according to Ukrainian law, makes it impossible to hold the vote. Zelensky has said the presidential election can’t be held until after the end of hostilities.
