Kiev says it begins talks on security guarantees with US next week

It is about defense and financial support, as well as sanctions, head of the Ukrainian presidential office Andrey Yermak said

MOSCOW, July 30. /TASS/. Ukraine hopes to begin talks with the United States on a bilateral document on security guarantees already next week, head of the Ukrainian presidential office Andrey Yermak said on Sunday.

"Ukraine will begin talks with the US on a bilateral agreement on security guarantees already next week. These guarantees will be in force until Ukraine’s accession to NATO, which will be the safest security guarantee," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

According to Yermak, "security guarantees for Ukraine will be concrete and long-term obligations, <…> it is about defense and financial support, as well as sanctions."

At a summit in Vilnius on July 11-12, NATO adopted a program of military support for Kiev, which will continue after the end of the current conflict. Apart from that, following this summit, the Group of Seven passed a declaration on long-term security guarantees to Ukraine, which promises a considerable military potential to Kiev.

Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov slammed this decision as erroneous and potentially dangerous. According to the Kremlin spokesman, it means that the G7 infringes upon Russia’s security.
