Militants blocking passage of humanitarian convoys to quake-hit areas in Syria

Five people died, 320 more were injured and three building were ruined on government-controlled territories in the Latakia and Aleppo governorates as a result of aftershocks in the night from February 20 to February 21

MOSCOW, February 21. /TASS/. Militants of illegal armed units are blocking the Saraqib and Abu Azeidin checkpoints to bar humanitarian convoys from reaching earthquake-hit areas in Syria, Oleg Gurinov, deputy chief of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties in Syria (a division of the Russian defense ministry), said on Tuesday.

"More damage and casualties were reported in the Idlib de-escalation zone. The Syrian government is ready to send convoys with humanitarian and other necessary aid to the affected areas but the Saraqib and Abu Azeidin checkpoints are blocked by militants of illegal armed groups," he said.
