MOSCOW, March 22. /TASS/. The Russian Supreme Court has upheld a decision to dissolve the Memorial International historical educational society (recognized in Russia as a foreign agent), TASS correspondent reports.
Judge Alla Nazarova announced the decision: "The request for a stay shall not be permitted."
Earlier, the European Court of Human Rights ordered a stay of the decision to dissolve Memorial to consider its complaint to the court.
On December 28, 2021, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation decided to dissolve the International Memorial historical educational society for violating the law on foreign agents, having satisfied the claim of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office. Memorial International was included in the register of NGOs that are foreign agents in 2016. Over the course of several years, the organization has been repeatedly fined by Russian courts for running afoul of the foreign agents’ law.
