Russian satellites constantly attacked to jam or compromise signal, says state operator

Alexey Volin underscored that the targeted malicious jamming detected earlier was not aimed at civilian spacecraft, but in the current state of affairs this has become a hot topic, so creating a software and hardware complex was vital

MOSCOW, March 14. /TASS/. Russia has recently observed repeated attempts to jam or tamper with its satellite signal from the neighboring territory, the Russian Satellite Communication Company’s Director General Alexey Volin said on Tuesday.

According to him, Russia is currently creating a software-hardware system which will allow the detection of targeted malicious jamming of a satellite.

"Unfortunately, it has recently become quite relevant, because we observe constant attacks on Russian satellites from the neighboring territory. Many know from media reports about attempts to compromise the signal, to jam it," Volin said at the Digital Transformation Forum ‘Modern IT landscape of Russian economy. Moving towards digital sovereignty’, which takes place as part of Russian Business Week 2023.

He underscored that the targeted malicious jamming detected earlier was not aimed at civilian spacecraft, but in the current state of affairs this has become a hot topic, so creating a software and hardware complex was vital. "But the most important thing here is to determine whether it was intentional interference or accidental," Volin explained, adding that the degree and speed of the response would depend on this. "We hope that we have this thing done by the end of the year."
