Experts identify African countries attractive for agricultural investment

The most obvious areas of Russian interest are fertilizers, agricultural machinery, and grain supply chains, the report said

MOSCOW, October 28. /TASS/. Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, and several West African countries offer different agricultural investment environments for Russian investors, according to the authors of a report titled "Africa’s Investment Landscape: Conditions, Opportunities, and Models for Russian Business Presence," prepared by the Financial University, the Roscongress Foundation, and Vedomosti business newspaper.

The report’s authors point out that what unites these African countries is not the type of agriculture they practice, but the potential to increase productivity and domestic value added. "The most obvious areas of Russian interest are fertilizers, agricultural machinery, and grain supply chains. However, a more sustainable presence emerges when product deliveries are complemented by services, agronomic support, training, storage, irrigation, and processing," the report said.

Ethiopia is highlighted in particular, as its industrial zones accommodate agricultural processing, making the country attractive for investment and creating opportunities to link agricultural resources with industrial facilities, "although the foreign exchange and transportation environment still requires separate analysis," the experts added.
