VILNIUS, April 5. /TASS/. Lithuania finds it necessary to impose an EU import duty not only on grain, but also on vegetables and fish from Belarus and Russia, according to a statement by the Lithuanian Agriculture Ministry.
"We also propose to include vegetables and fish products in the duty base as categories of goods that are imported in particularly significant quantities," the statement says.
The ministry believes that the import of such products infringes on the interests of European farmers, and also replenishes the budget of the Russian Federation, from which funds are drawn to counteract Ukraine.
As the ministry notes, according to the EU's developments, ordinary wheat can be subject to an import duty of 95 euros per ton, other categories - 148 euros per ton.
Currently, agricultural products from Russia and Belarus are not subject to EU duties. According to the European Commission, in 2023, the EU countries imported 4.8 million tons of Russian and Belarusian grain worth up to 1.5 billion euros.
