More than 14,000 Qiwi wallet owners submit creditor’s claims online since March 26 — DIA

The total amount of claims is 167 million rubles

MOSCOW, April 1. /TASS/. More than 14,000 Qiwi wallet owners have submitted creditor’s claims totaling 167 million rubles ($1.8 mln) through personal accounts of the Qiwi wallet payment service since March 26, 2024, the Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA) said in a statement.

"More than 14,000 owners of Qiwi wallets have submitted their creditor’s claim through the personal account of the Qiwi wallet payment service since March 26, 2024 - from the moment this option became available. The total amount of claims is 167 million rubles," the statement says.

As the DIA notes, the court hearing on the introduction of a forced liquidation procedure in relation to QIWI Bank is scheduled for April 10, 2024.

"Given the sufficiency of the bank’s property to satisfy the claims of creditors, settlements with them are planned to start after the registry of creditors’ claims is closed - in July 2024. Funds available in the credit institution’s correspondent account with the Bank of Russia, as well as funds from the sale of the bank’s property, will be used to pay off creditors," the DIA said.

Earlier, the DIA reported that starting from March 26, 2024, owners of Qiwi wallets can submit a creditor's claim for inclusion in the register of creditors of QIWI Bank through the personal account of the Qiwi payment service.

License revocation

The Bank of Russia revoked the banking license of QIWI Bank on February 21. In its decision to revoke the license, the regulator cited high-risk transactions aimed at facilitating settlements between individuals and shadow businesses, including the transfer of funds to crypto exchanges, illegal online casinos, bookmakers, etc., as well as looking for new ways to circumvent the restrictions imposed by the regulator. The regulator stated that it had recorded cases of opening "Qiwi wallets" using the personal data of citizens without their knowledge.

After the license was revoked, the Bank of Russia appointed the DIA as a temporary administration to the bank.
