MOSCOW, March 1. /TASS/. Illegitimate sanctions against Russia will boomerang on the West. In fact, the backlash effect is already much in sight, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on the round-the-clock television news channel Rossiya-24 in an interview.
She stressed that the sanctions against Russia were being introduced first and foremost at the initiative of Washington, London and, respectively, all members of NATO as an organization."
"They should be aware that the measures that they have employed against our country are not only illegitimate and immoral and fail to meet the lofty ideals the Western world has professed for years. They will boomerang on their own countries, and not just in the form of our countermeasures, many of which have not yet been devised, but just because the world is inter-related, the economy is globalized and our joint economic and financial activity is prone to damage, if one part of the world gets such a savage blow from other parts of the world, the Euro-Atlantic region in the first place," Zakharova said.
She warned that the Western countries had already started the countdown to the self-destruction of their own economies. It was not Russia, she said, that has launched this process.
"Already now colossal damage is being done to their financial systems, their economies and their energy security. They should remember that it was not Russia that dealt that blow. Russia has for many years tried to persuade them to return to the fold of international law. For eight years it has demonstrated its wish to put an end to bloodshed on its border through a dialogue, law and diplomacy. They have begun the process of destroying their own economies themselves."
Zakharova said that those people who have already felt the effects of this on their own lives should know that this is a result of their own government’s policies.
