HAIKOU, October 9. /TASS/. The administrative center of Hainan, Haikou, received over 700,000 tourists during the "golden week" on the occasion of the Founding of the PRC, which was celebrated on October 1, according to the local newspaper Hainan Daily.
In 2021, the weekend in honor of the Founding Day of the People's Republic of China lasted from October 1 to October 7. Along with the holidays on the occasion of the New Year according to the lunar calendar, the first week of October is considered the favorite time of the Chinese people to travel, in China it is called the "golden week". During this period, according to official figures, Haikou's tourism revenues amounted to 977 million yuan (about $ 151 million). In 2020, on October 1-7, Haikou received 956,000 tourists, and the total revenue of the tourism industry during these holidays amounted to 1.3 billion yuan (about $ 201 million).
By 2025, the authorities intend to turn Hainan into an "international center for tourism and consumption."
