MOSCOW, September 16. /TASS/. The growth of gas prices in Europe will speed up putting the Nord Stream 2 pipeline into operation, Russia's envoy to the EU, Vladimir Chizhov said in an interview with the Rossiya 24 TV Channel.

"I hope it will have a positive effect. They will speed up it (procedures - TASS), although, as you understand, in the EU there are many of those who see the hand of Kremlin behind the surge in global gas prices and an attempt to impose Nord Stream 2," he noted.

Chizhov said he is confident that the procedures for launching Nord Stream 2 will end well, regardless of the opinion of the members of the European Parliament.

"They, in particular, demand that consumers in the EU give up electricity produced by Russian nuclear power plants, as well as by nuclear power plants built outside Russia, but with the use of Russian technologies, but they do not explain how this can be done in practice. They electricity, wherever it is generated, gets into the general network," he said.

By the end of trading session at the ICE on Thursday, gas price in Europe fixed at $760 per 1,000 cubic meters. On the eve, the cost of natural gas broke all time high, reaching almost $970 per 1,000 cubic meters at its peak.

Earlier Gazprom announced that the construction of Nord Stream 2 was completed on the morning of September 10. Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller said that Gazprom could supply the first gas via the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to the European market already during this heating season, before the end of 2021.
