BEIJING, August 2. /TASS/. China is ready to respond to the US’ tariff increase announced by President Donald Trump, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said at a regular briefing on Friday.

"If the US is going to implement the additional tariffs, China will have to take necessary countermeasures. I think that the United States should think twice before assuming such steps as it will face bad consequences," she said.

Beijing may respond to mounting pressure, while Washington "will bear responsibility" for trade wars' escalation, Hua Chunying emphasized.

On Thursday, Donald Trump said the US would slap tariffs on roughly $300 bln worth of Chinese products on September 1.
