Russia’s Security Service prevents terrorist plot, sabotage attempt in Belgorod Region

Officers of the regional departments of both the Federal Security Service of Russia and the Russian Interior Ministry halted the criminal activity of the perpetrator

BELGOROD, March 11. /TASS/. Russia’s Federal Security Service arrested a resident of the Belgorod Region for planning to commit a terrorist attack in the settlement of Valuiki and poison Russian servicemen, the service’s press service told TASS.

"Officers of Russia’s Federal Security Service's office for the region and employees of the Center for Combating Extremism within the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs interrupted the criminal activity of a Russian citizen, born in 1976, a native of the Belgorod Region, and detained him while he was preparing a terrorist attack and sabotage on the territory of the Belgorod Region," the report said.

The man established contact with representatives of the organization that is recognized as extremist and outlawed in Russia, he gathered information on locations and movements of the Russian army in the border area of the Belgorod region and shared it with the organization so it could conduct an attack on Russia’s forces. He planned to poison Russian servicemen, as well as to commit a terrorist attack in the settlement of Valuiki on the instructions of his handlers.

"The investigative department of Russia’s Federal Security Service in the Belgorod Region has initiated criminal cases under Article 275, part 3 of Article 30, part 2 of Article 205.5, part 1 of Article 30, paragraph (a) of part 3 of Article 281, part 1 of Article 30, part 1 of Article 205, and part 1 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia," the agency specified.
