Bastion missile system hit many military targets during Ukrainian operation — source

The source said the system and its Oniks missiles "brilliantly confirmed their ability to strike ground targets in the course of the military operation in Ukraine"

MOSCOW, May 27. /TASS/. The Bastion mobile coastal defense missile system of the Russian Navy hit several dozens of ground targets of the Ukrainian armed forces during the three months of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, a source close to the Russian defense ministry has told TASS.

"The Crimea-based Bastion of the Russian Black Sea Fleet hit several dozens of ground targets of the Ukrainian armed forces. All targets were struck with the projected accuracy," he said.

The source said the system and its Oniks missiles "brilliantly confirmed their ability to strike ground targets in the course of the military operation in Ukraine."

The system’s developer and manufacturer, NPO Mashinostroyeniya (part of the Tactical Missiles Corporation) refrained from commenting on the information when contacted by TASS.

Bastion and its supersonic Oniks cruise missiles were initially designed for anti-ship warfare. Its successful use against ground-based radiocontrast targets began during the Russian military operation in Syria.

According to open-access sources, Bastion has a range of about 500 km.
