Extremists organize rampage inside office of Sberbank in Kiev

A mob of nationalists did this while returning from a picket by the walls of the Laura

KIEV, June 22, 16:59 /ITAR-TASS/. Nationalistic extremists on Sunday organized a rampage inside an office of Sberbank in Kiev, the UNN news agency said.

A mob of nationalists did this while returning from a picket by the walls of the world-famous Laura, or the Monastery of the Caves.

“Unknown people wearing balaclavas smashes windows with cobblestones and hurled petards into it,” the report said. “Along with this, the radicals hurled petards inside the building. However, they didn’t enter it.”

“Also the media said several police vans had arrived at the site,” the news agency said.

Earlier in the day, the extremists held their protest action near the compound of the Monastery of the Caves, in the course of which they shouted out nationalistic slogans. Supplementary police units were brought to the scene.

Like the greater part of the Eastern Orthodox Church in Ukraine, the Monastery of the Caves, which is broadly viewed as the cradle of the Russian Orthodox Church, remains committed to the idea of strongly spiritual and organizational ties with Moscow Patriarchate.

Extra forces were brought to the area of the monastery.
