Two suspected Russian drones found floating in Black Sea — Romanian defense minister

According to Romania’s acting Defense Minister Radu Miruta, the drones were spotted by a ship working in this area which called a coastal guard boat

BUCHAREST, August 11. /TASS/. Romanian divers have neutralized two suspected Russian drones floating in the waters of the Black Sea, Romania’s acting Defense Minister Radu Miruta said.

"Military divers destroyed two Geran-class UAVs this afternoon in Romania’s exclusive economic zone, approximately 90 nautical miles from Constanta, in the vicinity of the Neptun Deep gas field," he wrote on Facebook (Facebook is banned in Russia due to its ownership by Meta, which has been designated as extremist).

According to Miruta, the drones were spotted by a ship working in this area which called a coastal guard boat. "Two drifting UAVs and other debris were identified," he wrote. "The defense ministry contacted Ukrainian partners, who said that these systems did not belong to them."

"To ensure the safety of navigation and operations near the gas production platform, a decision was made to destroy the UAVs by means of a controlled explosion," he added.

Romania previously reported several incidents with alleged Russian drones. This topic was raised at a meeting with Russian Ambassador Vladimir Lipayev at the Romanian foreign ministry, who said following it that the Romanian side "provided no evidence that the drones were of Russian origin.".
