According to a Libyan official, Tripoli supports any efforts toward Arab-Russian cooperation in reaching stability in the Middle East and North Africa

TUNIS, May 21. /TASS/. Libya’s Presidential Council, which carries the functions of head of state, welcomes Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposal to hold the first Russian-Arab summit in mid-October, a Libyan official told TASS.

"We welcome this initiative, which would contribute to multilateral dialogue and provide an opportunity to discuss regional problems, including the Libyan crisis," he said. According to him, Libya supports any efforts toward Arab-Russian cooperation in reaching stability in the Middle East and North Africa, given they are based on the respect of sovereignty of regional players and their decisions.

In a letter to participants in the 2025 Arab League summit on May 17, Putin invited all Arab League leaders to the first Russian-Arab summit, scheduled for October 15. The Russian president expressed confidence that the event will contribute to further strengthening the mutually beneficial multifaceted cooperation between the countries and help ensure peace, security, and stability in the Middle East and North Africa.
