NEW YORK, March 12. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump put Vladimir Zelensky in his place and told him that Washington is serious about a long-term peace agreement in Ukraine, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a Fox News TV broadcast.

"He [Trump] is a negotiator-in-chief, and he put Zelensky in his place and told him that the Americans are serious about a long-term peace deal. And we are very, very pleased with the way that the Ukrainians and this deal today turned out. And we hope that this will continue in a long and everlasting peace - that's President Trump's goal, and we hope we can deliver on that goal," she said.

At the same time, Leavitt pointed out that she had not been briefed on Russia's reaction to the US-Ukraine agreements discussed in Jeddah. "I have not been updated on the progress. I know that Secretary of State [Marco] Rubio and national security adviser Mike Waltz are working very hard on this. The president is obviously very engaged and involved. He was briefed throughout the day today on the situation unfolding in Saudi Arabia," she added.

On Tuesday, US-Ukrainian talks were held in Jeddah, after which Vladimir Zelensky's website published a joint statement. According to the statement, the two sides agreed to soon conclude a comprehensive agreement on the development of critical natural resources. The Kiev regime confirmed its readiness to accept Washington's proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in the conflict with Russia. In return, the US promised to immediately resume providing intelligence and assistance to Ukraine.
