LONDON, March 1. /TASS/. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has called on the EU to launch "direct discussions with Russia on a ceasefire" in Ukraine, the Financial Times (FT) reported, citing a letter Orban sent to EU Council President Antonio Costa on February 28.

According to the newspaper, the Hungarian politician opposed Brussels’ attempts to find a consensus on Ukraine among the bloc’s 27 member states.

"It has become evident that there are strategic differences in our approach to Ukraine that cannot be bridged by drafting or communication," Orban wrote to Costa. According to the Financial Times, the Hungarian prime minister has threatened to block EU resolutions on Ukraine.
