US-Ukraine deal on rare earths 'awaiting signature' – US treasury secretary

Previously, Trump confirmed that Zelensky would arrive in Washington on February 28

NEW YORK, February 28. /TASS/. The United States and Ukraine have finalized the deal on natural resources, and negotiations on the subject are now over, US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent said.

"The deal is done. President Zelensky is coming here to sign the deal tomorrow, so there is no more negotiation. <…> I'm sure President Zelensky and President Trump will have a wide-ranging discussion. But as far as the deal, it is complete. It is on paper, and the Ukrainian government has approved it. It is just awaiting the signature," he told Fox Business.

"It is a deal on strategic minerals, oil and gas and infrastructure assets. And it's really a win-win," he added.

Previously, Trump confirmed that Zelensky would arrive in Washington on February 28 to sign a deal on Ukraine's minerals, among other matters. Zelensky has so far refused to sign the document, insisting that it should include security guarantees for Ukraine. At the same time, Trump and Zelensky seriously disagree on how Kiev should compensate for the funds spent by Washington to support Ukraine.
