MOSCOW, December 5. /TASS/. Polish Foreign Ministry spokesman Pawel Wronski has called Moscow's response to the closure of the Russian consulate-general in Poznan symmetrical after the Russian Foreign Ministry notified Warsaw on December 5 with a note about the closure of the Polish consulate general in St. Petersburg.
"Russia's decision is absolutely symmetrical. The consulate is closed and three diplomats are declared personae non gratae. This is the basic information contained in the note. It is a symmetrical measure in accordance with the convention," Wronski said in a commentary for the TVP Info channel. The diplomat offered no answer to the interviewer's question whether Warsaw was going to take any action in response to Russia's decision.
On October 22, the Polish Foreign Ministry announced the decision to close the Russian consulate general in Poznan and expel its staff. Until then, there had been three Russian consulates general in Poland - in Krakow in the south, in Poznan in the west and in Gdansk in the north. On December 5, Moscow notified Warsaw of the closure of the Polish consulate general in St. Petersburg in a retaliatory measure. The office will have to complete its work by January 10, 2025. After that Poland will have two consulates general in Russia - in Kaliningrad and Irkutsk. According to the media, about 47,000 Poles reside in Russia.
