China to become third nuclear superpower by 2030 — expert

Alexander Ageyev also noted that today the international arena was a constantly changing platform of diverse global competition, which "sometimes is a confrontation, sometimes a multi-sphere war, and sometimes multi-sphere cooperation"

MOSCOW, December 3. /TASS/. By 2030, China will join the list of nuclear superpowers to become the third leading member of the international nuclear club, Alexander Ageyev, the Director-General of the International Research Institute for Advanced Systems, said during a round table discussion at TASS on Eurasian Security in an Era of Change following the 8th Scientific and Practical Conference - Forum of Russian Analysts.

"China has set this target and it will meet it, precisely the way it fulfills all its plans with almost 100% accuracy, namely, to join the list of nuclear superpowers. This status implies the possession of a certain number of warheads, which by 2030, if not earlier, will exceed 1,000-1,200," he noted. "Accordingly, the United States, Russia and China will be the three nuclear superpowers." Ageyev remarked that as they observe the transformation of the world order and the destruction of existing regional security systems, the Chinese authorities have realized the need for investing not only in improving the country's economic performance, but also military potential, "increasing its significance in the entire palette of security opportunities."

Russia as representative of unique development strategy

The expert also noted that today the international arena was a constantly changing platform of diverse global competition, which "sometimes is a confrontation, sometimes a multi-sphere war, and sometimes multi-sphere cooperation."

"Therefore, we (Russia - TASS note) must be strong, under the sea and underground, on the sea, and, accordingly, in space, as well as in the near and distant skies," he noted. "All this requires very specific technical, scientific and technical solutions involving unmanned aerial vehicles both in the sky and on the ground, clusters of communication satellites, healthcare, education and economic institutions."

Analyzing Russia's position in the international arena, Ageyev emphasized that, unlike other countries, it demonstrates a different development strategy, while "certainly being a basic state-civilization."

"Therefore, there is no other way out other than to be strong, strong in all respects: a strong economy, strong science, strong technologies, healthy and long-lived people who want to build their sovereign, independent, vibrant and unique way of life," Ageyev stated.
