Hungary hopes pro-peace forces to gain strength after EP polls — top diplomat

"Hungary hopes for "success of the right wing" during the European Parliament elections," Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said

SIRIUS /Federal territory/, March 27. /TASS/. Budapest expects that the upcoming elections to the European Parliament will bolster the position of forces that favor peace in Ukraine, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told TASS in an interview.

"I don't think that the accession of Sweden to NATO would <…> increase tensions, but what I hope for is that the European Parliament elections, and some national elections, which are to come up, will strengthen the position of the pro-peace politicians. The question is now actually, whether pro-peace politicians can win national elections in Europe. And the question is whether pro-peace politicians will have more seats in the European Parliament than so far," he said.

In his words, Hungary hopes for "success of the right wing" during the European Parliament elections," so that "the right wing gains some more strength" and "has more seats in the European Parliament."

Under this scenario, "there will be a much bigger chance for a more pragmatic, common sense-based approach to take place in the European politics, and that will increase the chance of the pro-peace mood and the pro-peace sentiment to increase," Szijjarto said.

Elections to the European Parliament will be held between June 6 and 9.
