BERLIN, February 27. /TASS/. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has once again vowed that Germany will spare no effort to prevent any escalation in Ukraine so that this conflict it couldn’t develop into confrontation between Russia and NATO.
He stressed that his country will continue supporting Ukraine. "But we are doing our best - and I am calling for this as the chancellor - to prevent escalation of this war [in Ukraine], to prevent a war between Russia and NATO," the DPA agency quoted him as saying.
According to the German leader, he has always been guided by this principle. In this context, he once again pledged that Germany would not send its troops to Ukraine. "There will be neither German nor NATO troops on Ukrainian soil," he stressed.
He also said that he objects to supplying Kiev with Taurus long-range cruise missiles.
After a conference on Ukraine in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron said that he did not rule out that land forces from Western countries could be sent to the zone of special military operation. He also said that Western counties were "determined to do everything it takes to prevent Russia" from winning the conflict. The conference that was held on February 26 was attended by the German chancellor, the Polish president, and prime ministers of about 20 EU countries.
